Jerome Karle Biography - Nobel Prize Winner (1985)

 

Jerome Karle (born June 18, 1918) is an American physical chemist. He was born in New York City and attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn.

Jointly with Herbert A. Hauptman he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1985.

He received his bachelor's degree from the City College of New York in 1937, a master's degree from Harvard University in 1938, and a PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1944

He worked on the Manhattan Project with his wife Dr. Isabella Karle (one of the youngest scientist and few women on the project) at the University of Chicago. As of this edit July 1, 2006 The Drs. Karle continues to work at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC.

Jerome Karle is the current President and 2nd President of the World Innovation Foundation (The WIF) consisting of around 3,000 Honorary Members and Fellows including 79 Nobel Laureates from Peace, Science and Economics. The WIF's founding President was the late Nobel Laureate Dr. Glenn T. Seaborg (Element 106 Seaborgium).
